Auctioneers Halls are to introduce two auctions of vintage tractors and farm machinery in 2013 following the outstanding success of a sale near Kidderminster.

For the first time, the auctioneers included a specialist vintage section within their usual monthly collective machinery sale at The Gallops, Stanklyn Lane, Stone after months of planning and discussions with potential buyers and sellers.

In excess of 70 vintage farm implements and around 35 vintage tractors went under the hammer, attracting a record crowd. The vintage section’s top price went to an Allis Chalmers 190, which sold for £4,500.

Other leading prices were £2,850 for a Fordson Super Major New Performance, £2,700 for a David Brown 900, £2,100 for a Massey Ferguson 165, £2,000 for a 1938 Fordson Standard, £1,950 for a Massey Ferguson 135, £1,900 for an International 434, £1,580 for a Massey Ferguson 35 and £1,000 for a Ursus C-335.

The vintage implements section again attracted keen interest, with a horse Deere drawn plough making £700, a two furrow Ransome match plough £850, a six furrow Kverneland/Bamford plough £800, a horse drawn dray £600 and an Allis Chalmers Rota-Baler £200.

The usual monthly collective auction attracted a good trade with a Ford 5610 tractor making £5,950, a Sami Solaris 30 compact tractor £3,600 and a Chieftain mini digger £1,500.

The implements section saw an Orsi hedge cutter make £1,500 and a Weaving seven leg subsoiler £1,350. The garden machinery section included a Westwood T16 mower at £400, a Countax C300H mower at £380, a Karcher commercial steam cleaner at £335 and a range of poultry pens making around £130.

“Overall the day was a great success, with buyers and sellers going home happy,” said Daniel Lovatt, an agricultural director of Halls. “The vintage section saw strong trade for genuine, unrestored tractors and, whilst there was still significant interest, fully restored tractors proved harder to sell.

“However, due to the amount of interest in the vintage section, Halls will be holding two vintage sales next year, which will be incorporated into our usual monthly sale, starting next April. There has already been interest expressed in other themed sales, which we are now exploring.”

The team at Halls in Kidderminster is already accepting entries for the last auction of the year on November 30, with the catalogue deadline set for Monday, November 19.
