DESPITE hitting the age of 50, Nick Cave is still producing some of the hardest rock sounds out there as his new album Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!! hits the shops.
Along with the Bad Seeds, Cave has been producing music for 25 years and is well known for his biblical themes.
The title shows that this is obviously still the case, but the record has a more raw sound and you can hear the band has matured since their last release.
The title track tells the story of the risen Lazarus, now in modern day New York, who by the end of the track is a drug user.
The wandering wordplay, hidden narratives and black humour that have set Cave apart from his contemporaries are all abundant on this CD and it's amazing that he has released so much material but still manages to sound fresh.
This is not the kind of music I would describe as accessible and it may need a few listens if you really want to appreciate it, especially if you haven't heard anything by the band before.
Stick with it though, and you will find an album that will stay inside your CD player for weeks.
