Book - Sepulchre - Kate Mosse

DESPITE reading mixed reviews of this book, I was gripped from start to finish.

The twin time theme is particularly fascinating.

The characters are very good, especially the villain, who is very creepy and menacing and the mystery surrounding the tarot cards is intriguing.

The story is centred mainly around Leonie Vernier and her brother Anatole, who in October 1891 are invited to leave Paris and travel south to a mysterious country house called La Domaine de la Cade near Carcassone.

There, in the ancient, dark woods, Leonie comes across a ruined sepulchre and is drawn into a very old mystery of murder, ghosts and a strange set of very powerful tarot cards.

Meanwhile, in October 2007, Meredith Martin decides to take a break from her research trip in Paris and head down south to stay in a beautiful hotel in the woods.

She becomes fascinated by the history of the place and the tragic events that happened during Halloween more than a century ago that shocked the whole community and it is only when Meredith also stumbles across a secluded glade in the forest that she realises that the secrets it contains are far from dead and buried.

This book is a haunting mystery of revenge and obsession and is full of ghosts, duels, murders, and ill-fated love.

It is a really gripping read and I would recommend it to anyone. So pop into Redditch Library today and check it out.
