CD - St Jude - The Courteeners
DESPITE their Oasis-sized egos and lead singer Liam Fray's occasional claim to be the next big thing, Manchester band the Courteeners actually do seem to have the evidence to back up their ambitious statements.
Their debut album plays on their Mancunian accents expertly, offsetting dance floor fillers and melodious Sunday afternoon tracks in just the right way to leave you wondering whether this is the next Oasis, Morrissey or even Pulp.
Particular favourites include the fast-paced Cavorting and No You Didn't, No You Don't, to the more poetic How Come and Yesterday, Today and Probably Tomorrow which evoke elements of His n' Hers, but the Courteeners have built up a steady catalogue of quality tracks, tried and tested in front of live audience across the country and few of these are weak.
Ignore the attitude and feel the quality. If these boys can avoid stomping all over themselves in interviews, they've got a fun career to look forward to.
