DVD - The Darjeeling Limited (15)
THE Darjeeling Limited sees three idiosyncratic brothers - Jack, Peter and Francis - head out across India on a voyage of pseudo self discovery, armed with a paraphernalia of non-prescription Indian painkillers, mismatched shoes, a poisonous snake and enough character quirks to fill their carriage to the brim.
The trip doesn't turn out quite as planned and if you're waiting for a tight plot to emerge you're probably going to be disappointed since this reads more like a child's account of their weekend, with one event followed by another, never quite reaching a point.
However, for fans of director Wes Anderson, everything you could wish for is present.
Characters interact in a delightfully awkward manner, colour and pattern burst out of the screen in a yellow and turquoise daydream, the soundtrack immediately needs to be purchased and the lack of a plot seems more like poetry than a shortcoming.
It's the newcomers to Wes Anderson movies that might find the Darjeeling Limited a little hard to handle, since despite Owen Wilson's presence this is no frat pack comedy, and anyone expecting one will be sorely disappointed.
The best advice is to save this until after you've seen Rushmore or The Royal Tenenbaums and then come back and enjoy it for what it is.
