BLACK Country talent was on show in Stourbridge for heats in a prestigious competition which could lead to a high-profile London gig.

Artists assembled at Base Studios in Rufford Road on January 16 to take part a heat for Rock The House, a national battle of the bands organised by heavy metal loving MP Mike Weatherley with for prizes including festival slots, studio time, equipment, and the chance to perform in London’s West End.

Rockers Winston’s Big Brother won the over 19s category with a storming performance while the singer Calvert Stephens will be heading for the national finals in the solo category.

Singing duo Synergy, featuring Claire-Victoria Listhrop and Eve Pitt, both aged 14, were winners in the under 19s category and after their victory was announced they spoke of their delight.

Claire and Eve said: “It is great to be going to the next stage and being able to experience that for ourselves.”

The winners were chosen by a panel of judges including Stourbridge MP Margot James who is hoping the trio of talent will include an overall winner at the grand finals, which will take place in March.

Ms James said: “The standard was even higher this year. There is a wealth of creative talent locally and we were all blown away by those who entered the competition.

“I was delighted that the other judges and I were all agreed on the winners and I would especially like to commend Eve and Claire of Synergy, who were the youngest entrants, for winning the under-19 category. I would also like to thank everyone who entered and wish all of the winners the very best of luck going forward to compete nationally.”
