NED’S Atomic Dustbin have a Christmas cracker lined up for their fans at this year’s seasonal shindig in Wolverhampton.

The Black Country band has a new tune to slot into the set after rehearsals for their show at Wolverhampton Civic Hall sparked their song writing senses into life.

The Neds will be headlining the last Saturday night gig at the famous venue on December 19 before it closes for a major refurbishment and singer Jonn Penney has been talking about how he decided the time was right for a new song.

Jonn said: “Back in the day when we were 21 we were falling out with girlfriends and didn’t understand the world so there was plenty to write about.

“Not long after we reformed with the five original members Mat said “you are 42 – what are you going to write about now?” he had a good point.”

The Neds have a back catalogue packed with sufficient hits to keep their fans happy but the enjoyment of being in the band, which Jonn describes as “the best hobby in the world”, delivered fresh ideas.

He said: “I feel I have got stuff to say again, in rehearsals we are having lots of fun, it could be the endorphins.”

The new song is called Self Defence, a pacey indie rocker which is Jonn says is about “protecting yourself from yourself.”

This weekend’s Civic Hall gig, the first Kill Your Television festival, will also feature sets from indie heroes The Wedding Present, The Primitives and Eat, doors open at 5pm.
