POPULAR comic Paul McCaffrey will take centre stage as a Stourbridge comedy club celebrates its second anniversary next week.

Regarded by many as one of the best stand-ups in the country, McCaffrey – who has appeared on Russell Howard's Good News and BBC3's Impractical Jokers – will headline Fitz of Laughter Comedy Club at Katie Fitzgerald’s on Friday September 2.

The club was launched in September 2014 in the smaller cellar bar at the Enville Street venue but has since grew in popularity, moving into the bigger heated outdoor marquee with every show this year being packed out.

This year the venue has already played host to the likes of Gary Delaney, Zoe Lyons, John Robertson, Nathan Caton, Barbara Nice, Sean Percival and club favourite Patrick Monahan.

But McCaffrey will have a tough act to follow as last month’s headliner and Black Country man Jonny Cole became the first act ever to get an encore at the club.

Support to McCaffrey on the night will be provided by two award-winning pro comics in the shape of President Obonjo and Louis Burgess, while it will be hosted as ever by resident compere, Dudley’s Wayne Beese.

Beese said: “We have been packed to the rafters every night so far this year and tickets are going very well for this one as well, so we would urge people to book quickly to avoid disappointment.

“It's a special milestone for us, although to be honest I can’t believe it’s been two years since we started, the time has flown by.

“We have had consistently good feedback every month, great reviews, and everyone who comes seems to have a great time.

“It’s a very welcoming and friendly environment, we don’t ‘pick on people’, so we would urge people to come and give us a try for a night out that’s a bit different.

“It’s a really intimate venue and perfect for comedy, we have had some really memorable moments and I’m sure there will be more to come.

“Paul is a top comedian, wherever he goes audiences love him and I’m sure Stourbridge will be no exception.

“As ever, we’ve also got two top support acts including our first ever president in the shape of Obonjo from the Lafta Republic.

“It promises to be a great night – don’t miss it.”

Other top acts to have graced the stage at Katie’s since Fitz of Laughter was born include Rob Deering, Tom Binns, former Xtra Factor host Matt Richardson, Phoenix Nights’ Archie Kelly, Jo Enright and Canadian Tom Stade.

Tickets for the show, which sees doors opening at 8pm for an 8.30pm start, cost £10 and are available, with no booking fee, at www.skiddle.com/e/12809849 or by calling Wayne on 07759 543750.
