ONE of rock 'n' roll's most compelling performers is coming to Birmingham this weekend.

Ian Hunter, the former Mott the Hoople frontman who penned All The Way From Memphis, Once Bitten, Twice Shy and Cleveland Rocks, will return to the stage with the Rant Band.

When the Mott split up in 1974, Hunter carved out a successful solo career, producing what many critics feel to be his best work to date.

“To me, music is holy” Hunter said.

“For the first fifteen years of my life, I had no idea what I was here for. But then Elvis came out and it was, 'Oh, that’s what I am here for'.

"Rock ‘n’ roll got me out and gave me a great life and I don’t know what I would have done without it. It’s all I know and my identity is all tied up with it."

Fans can see Hunter perform at Birmingham Town Hall on Sunday, June 25.

Tickets, priced £30.50 are available by calling the box office on 0121 780 3333.
