Adele has passed her driving test without her instructor recognising who she was.

The 25-year-old Skyfall singer - who has won a string of awards including an Oscar - has been taught to drive by intensive driving tutor Noel Gaughan and passed her test with one minor mistake earlier this month.

Noel, 49, told South West News Service: "I didn't know who Adele was so she started singing in her lessons. The problem was I didn't know any of her songs.

"She would sing some beautiful songs and say 'you must know this one' but I don't really know many celebrities."

And Adele, 25, is not the first celebrity Noel has helped to pass their test, through his driving school Intensive Courses in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire.

His other famous clients include One Direction's Niall Horan, Edward Dwane of Mumford And Sons, X-Men star James McAvoy, singer Mika and Bond girl Gemma Arterton.

Noel admitted he didn't know who boyband star Niall was until he stopped the car at traffic lights and it was surrounded by screaming girls. "That made driving difficult," he said.

He revealed Notting Hill star Rhys Ifans, 46, was his funniest pupil. "When we got to the test centre, he walked up to the examiner and said 'Shall I drop my pants now?'."
