Kate Moss is to have a cameo role in BBC One's adaptation of David Walliams' children's book The Boy In The Dress.

The 40-year-old supermodel - who recently appeared in a special edition of Channel 4's Gogglebox, alongside Noel Gallagher and Naomi Campbell - will appear as herself in the film to be shown at Christmas.

Kate has previously filmed other guest roles including a brief appearance in a special Sport Relief edition of Absolutely Fabulous in 2012.

She will appear in a fantasy scene during the hour-long family drama, which has just begun filming, about cross-dressing 12-year-old Dennis Sims.

Also in the cast are Meera Syal, Inbetweeners star James Buckley and Jennifer Saunders, with newcomer Billy Kennedy playing Dennis, who finds a colourful new world of fancy outfits after flicking through a fashion magazine.

Wallliams - who is married to Dutch catwalk model Lara Stone - said: "We have put together a dream cast for this the first of my children's books, and for many still my best. It is a funny and poignant story about what it is to be different. I hope it will make everyone who sees it, young and old, stop and think."

He also features in the film and it is being made by his company King Bert Productions, which he set up with Miranda Hart.

The BBC has previously screened adaptations of Walliams' books Gangsta Granny and Mr Stink.

Mark Freeland, the controller of fiction and entertainment for BBC Production said: "It's a real privilege to bring to screen another one of David Walliams' magical books. Christmas wouldn't be Christmas on BBC One without a man in a tatty coat, a granny on a souped-up mobility scooter and now a boy in a dress."
