Mayor of London Sadiq Khan will make a cameo appearance in the new series of Citizen Khan.

The politician is one of several familiar faces popping up when the BBC show returns to screens for its fifth series in November.

The sitcom follows the amusing trials and tribulations of the Khan family led by self-appointed community leader Mr Khan.

London’s Mayor will portray himself in the first episode of the series as he has a chance meeting with Mr Khan, who is in a spot of bother with his wife after forgetting their wedding anniversary.

The politician is seen taking selfies during his brief stint in the Birmingham-based comedy programme, which was created by Adil Ray, who also plays the show’s protagonist.

Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan and broadcaster Jonathan Agnew will also enjoy cameos in the episode as part of a storyline involving cricket, Mr Khan’s adored past-time.

Comedy star Harry Enfield and Baroness Warsi will also appear in the forthcoming series, along with actors Niky Wardley, Ricky Grover and Lynda Baron.

Citizen Khan’s fifth series will entertain viewers with a Peaky Blinders tribute on the streets of the family’s home city in one episode, and a chaotic funeral in another.

A Christmas special titled A Khanderful Life will bring the series to its conclusion as the family travels back in time to when Mr and Mrs Khan first moved to their home in Sparkhill, Birmingham.
