THE Black Country’s queen of comedy Doreen Tipton is back on the road with her very own one woman stage show.

In Doreen: Rise of the Yam-Yam - the much-loved lazy cow character, who started out life as an internet creation, casts doubt on Darwin’s original theory of evolution and unveils a brand new hypothesis of her own.

The all-new show, staged at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre on Sunday evening, sees Doreen explaining - in her own inimitable fashion - how the good folk of the Black Country became known as Yam-Yams.

Produced and directed by Quarry Bank born writer David Tristram - the production combines stand up, sit down, video clips and singing and sees Doreen adopting a variety of perfectly pulled-off different guises.

Jaw-achingly funny, the two-and-a-half hour show includes a spattering of old and plenty of new material - which clearly hit the spot with loyal Doreen fans who packed out the auditorium for the one and only show at the venue.

Uber-talented Walsall actress Gill Jordan lights up the stage as the Black Country heroine. Her natural ease in front of an audience and excellent comic-timing ensure David Tristram’s sharp script and witty observations are delivered exactly as they should be.

Stupendously produced video segments, also courtesy of Mr Tristram (who devised the Inspector Drake comedy plays and films), intersperse the live stage scenes seamlessly - perhaps the best of which sees Dor, as she’s known, turn superhero. There are also hilarious spoofs of top TV shows Peaky Blinders, Strictly Come Dancing, and Who Do You Think You Are (Who Do Yo Think Yo Am) thrown into the mix before Doreen turns game show host and even ventriloquist.

Rounding off a year that has seen her named best newcomer at the Great British Pantomime Awards pants awards and beating A-list stars to win the What’s On Midlands Entertainment Personality of the Year Award - Doreen’s star is sparkling more than ever.

The future’s bright - the future of comedy is Doreen.
