POPULAR vet Girish Thakral has made such an impression on pet owners and colleagues that he has been short-listed for Vet of the Year after just two years working in Dudley.
The cardiology specialist will be up against two other contenders for the national title which will be announced at a ceremony at Birmingham's Burlington Hotel next month.
Girish, who lives in Wolverhampton, where he worked for seven years prior to moving to the Blacks Veterinary Group in Hall Street two-and-a-half years ago, said he was "very proud" to be short-listed for the Petplan Veterinary Awards.
"It was a very nice surprise. It is good to know you are appreciated and certainly very satisfying," he said adding:
"I have had a lot of help and support from colleagues and have some wonderful clients as well."
From a young age, Girish looked after his pets at home and always wanted to be a vet.
"I had a lot of enthusiasm and fortunately it worked out well," said the 37-year-old, who has been a vet for 13 years.
Blacks is no stranger to awards having won practice of the year in 2006, the same year in which group practice manager Val Marsh won practice manager of the year.
She said everyone was "delighted" that Girish had been short-listed, describing him as always very professional and totally committed to his veterinary work.
"Girish is very popular with clients who are impressed by his knowledge and abilities. They all speak very highly of him and feedback from grateful owners of patients receiving cardiac care is always excellent.
"They are re-assured their pets are receiving the best treatment available. He has endless patience and nothing is too much trouble for clients and their pets.
"Consultancy appointments are always full whether heart patients or otherwise. Invariably he is the last person to leave the building and he can be heard patiently explaining and re-assuring worried clients.
"Nothing is too much trouble for our heart' man with the kindest heart," added Mrs Marsh.
