CONFIDENT Jon Higgins says Dudley Kingswinford have the right mentality to pull off a derby win at Bromsgrove.

DK travel to Finstall Park this Saturday riding on a four-game unbeaten streak which has seen them rise to ninth in National Two North.

The hosts are also unbeaten in two, having arrested a run of seven straight defeats and will be desperate for victory to help their own fight for survival.

But Higgins feels his side have what it takes, after shrugging off the mental doubts from earlier in the season.

He said: “Even when the results were not coming for us I never felt we were too far away.

“Now we seem to have got it right mentally over the past few weeks and with the character we have now in the side I think we have the players to beat Bromsgrove.

“It’s a difficult place to go and a local derby but if we play as well as we have been there is no reason we can’t win.”

Higgins had labelled last Saturday’s game with Stockport a “must-win” and DK duly did just that, running in five tries to claim a 39-15 victory.

Duncan Chance set the ball rolling with an early score and Stefan Shillingford grabbed a brace, before late tries from Jon Tideswell and Simon Fletcher put the result beyond doubt.

Higgins said: “We played quite well.

“There were some things we had needed to work on and we talked about them during training.

“It was really pleasing to see how the players responded, it made a massive difference and in the end the win was quite comfortable.

“We started the game really well, keeping the ball for the first 10 minutes and the pressure told in the end.”

In a further boost, Dk’s injury list is shortening with front row Rich Kelley and back row Joe Carpenter in with a chance of returning for Saturday.
