CHRISTMAS came early for borough pensioners thanks to a Dudley hotel.
The VILLAGE Urban Resort based on the Castlegate Business Park hosted a free festive treat for 50 Age UK Dudley members to help spread a little cheer to those who may be facing a quiet and isolated festive season.
All those attending were treated to a three-course hot meal prepared by head chef Wayne Asson. The afternoon also featured carols and festive songs performed by international vocalist Sandy Lawrence.
Age UK member William Carter, aged 86, said: “It was such a surprise and like a Christmas wish come true, the staff were wonderful and I loved the afternoon.” Darryl Holdnall, the hotel’s general manager, said: “We were delighted to be able to support the local elderly community at such a special time. “Christmas can be such a lonely occasion for many and we are keen to do our bit to make a difference.”
Jenny Worwood, from Age UK Dudley, said “We were extremely fortunate to receive this seasonal celebration, especially as finances are limited for charities and the older community at the moment. The afternoon meant so much to our clients and has made their Christmas.”
