A 25 YEAR-old man is set to appear before Wolverhampton Crown Court after leaving a 40 year-old pedestrian with a critical head injury, following a vicious road-rage assault in Woodside.

Appearing at Dudley Magistrates Court this morning, Samuel Pagett, of Cot Lane, Kingswinford, was bailed to appear at Crown Court on April 9.

He faces one count of wounding, following the incident on Sunday, when the pedestrian, named locally as Paul Currie, was floored by a single punch, after urging the driver of a white 4x4 to slow down on Newland Grove in Woodside.

The incident, which took place around 3pm, has left father-of-three Mr Currie in a critical condition in Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Detective Inspector Gary Dring, of Force CID, said: "This was a vicious assault which has left the victim with a very serious head injury. "We want to hear from anyone who saw the car in the area or anyone who witnessed the assault. If you have any information that could help our investigation, please call us as soon as possible on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
