IAN Rowe has urged Gornal Athletic to make home advantage count against Wisbech Town this Saturday.

The Peacocks welcome the Fenmen for an FA Vase to the Garden Walk for a fourth round tie, with a place in the last 16 awaiting the winners.

Rowe’s men have only lost once at home in 18 months and the manager is keen to make the most of familiar surroundings.

He said: “Over the past couple of years we have made the Garden Walk a tough place to come.

“Wisbech are bringing a couple of coaches down and you never know what teams who don’t play here regularly will make of it when they arrive, it’s very much a ‘Welcome to Gornal’ vibe we are looking for.

“Wisbech are going well in their league, we are going to have to be at our best and firing on all cylinders.”

Rowe’s preparation is not free of headaches, with four players — Bekhir Halil, Scott Moore, Rion Francis-Mills and David Meese — cup-tied.

Another key decision will be whether to stick with Matt Moore between the posts or bring back James Pemberton, while skipper Lee Wherton is hopeful of being back after missing the last two games with a knee injury.

Rowe said his team selection for last weekend’s 3-2 win at Rocester was partially influenced by the Vase game.

He said: “I’m all too conscious of the fact four players are cup-tied and other players need minutes.

“We brought Curtis Tilt back in for Scott Moore, who was probably our man-of-the-match when we won at Westfields.

“Scott was disappointed but he understood the situation.

“Then you have someone like Matt Martin who has been playing superbly in goal.

“That is another decision for me to make as well.”

If Gornal are victorious, Rowe is under no illusions as to what it would mean.

He added: “It would be the best thing ever for me in football were we to win.

“It would be fantastic.”
