Dudley residents help to send 100 million Christmas shoeboxes
2:30pm Monday 28th January 2013 in News
ONE hundred million Christmas shoeboxes were delivered to children in need around the world thanks to the help of Dudley residents.
Since 1990, Operation Christmas Child has been providing the gifts to children in over 100 countries.
This year in the West Midlands alone, more than 37,700 shoeboxes were filled with small toys, toiletries and clothing and sent to vulnerable children in Belarus, Bosnia, Kenya, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.
West Midlands Regional Manager for Operation Christmas Child, Chris Roberts, said: “I would like to thank the volunteers at our local collection sites and all those who packed an Operation Christmas Child shoe box gift. For some of the children who receive these gifts, this shoe box will be the first gift they have ever received. Thank you again to everyone who took part in this project. A simple gift, packed with love, can communicate hope to children worldwide.”
