A BRIERLEY Hill man has been left in shock after he was carjacked while driving his disabled wife’s mobility car.

The 46-year-old, who does not wish to be named, was driving his wife's silver Vauxhall Zafira mobility car on the A491 at Hagley when he noticed a vehicle behind flashing its lights and the driver waving his arms.

Thinking it was a police car - the man, who had just reached the roundabout by Hagley Police Station, drove onto the A491 in the direction of Bromsgrove, pulled into the first layby and got out of his car to speak to the driver - leaving the engine running.

He soon realised it wasn’t a police car but the driver said the Zafira’s rear passenger wheel was wobbling.

As the man bent down to look at the wheel he heard a door shut and then saw his own car and the other vehicle being driven off towards Bromsgrove.

Pc Alan Poole, of West Mercia Police, said: "The victim was extremely shaken.

"The car is a mobility vehicle which belongs to his wife, who is disabled. She has a number of problems, including epilepsy, arthritis and back problems and is unable to walk very far. As she is not insured to drive her husband's car, this theft has affected them quite badly.”

The couple, who have two children, say the incident has left them “feeling sick”.

Police now want to hear from anyone who saw the Zafira being followed, on its journey from Lye to Hagley on Friday January 25, or anyone who saw it being driven off along the A491 that evening (from around 7.30pm), or anyone who knows what has happened to the car (registration number BN60 KZG).

Despite being a mobility vehicle - the Zafira did not have any special adaptations.

The other car involved was described as dark coloured, and the driver was a light-skinned black man.

The victim did not see anone else in the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pc Poole at Hagley Police Station on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident 566-s-250113, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
