DUDLEY residents living on the 222 bus route are set to benefit from eight new state-of-the-art buses following a £1.5m investment.

National Express West Midlands has unveiled the latest additions for use on the busy route which serves Dudley to Brierley Hill via Russells Hall Hospital.

The buses, which are slimmer single deck buses allowing for quicker and easier manoeuvring around the housing estates, also sport distinctive green branding on the front and side, aimed at making it easier for customers to identify the service when making regular hospital trips.

Each bus is also fitted with next stop announcements to alert passengers where the bus will be stopping - a first of its kind in the Black Country.

Steve Hale, General Manager National Express West Midlands said: “These new vehicles are a big investment into our services in Dudley and Brierley Hill.

They feature the latest advancements in customer comfort, including a state of the art heating system that ensures our buses are cool in the summer and warm in the winter.”

The funded forms part of a £10million scheme to improve bus service across the Black Country.
