Calls made for safer crossing in Brierley Hill

CALLS have been made for Dudley Council to review the traffic lights system in Brierley Hill High Street, to make it safer for pedestrians trying to cross the road.

At the Brierley Hill / Brockmoor and Pensnett Community forum, a member of the public said the crossing lights system at the junction of High Street, Level Street and Bank Street was “very dangerous and really frightening” for some elderly residents, who cannot see when the lights are red.

Brierley Hill ward councillor Rachel Harris, also added: “It isn’t just an issue there, the new lights at the other end of the town are not working. I think it’s a problem with the system itself.”

Brockmoor and Pensett ward councillor Judy Foster, who is also the council’s cabinet member for transportation and community safety, promised to undertake a full review of the traffic light system in the town.

The committee also agreed to ask the council to introduce a pelican crossing with a flashing green man to make it easier for crossing pedestrians.
