New lease of life for Stourbridge Road properties
12:00pm Friday 8th March 2013 in News
FORTY-seven Dudley bedsits are being converted into family homes in a bid to increase the number of affordable housing in the town.
Jephson Homes Housing Association is working in partnership with Dudley Council to transform the 17 properties on Stourbridge Road from single bedroom flats to five-bedroom houses, following an increase of demand for large family homes.
Dudley College trainees are also working alongside contractor Bullock as part of their project.
Ian Woodland, development and property asset manager for Jephson Midlands, said: “Stourbridge Road is a well known landmark locally and we are excited to be starting work on a project that will have such a positive impact on the area, increase the choice of homes on offer and extend the life of these attractive properties.”
Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “Dudley Council is very excited to be working in conjunction with Jephson Housing Association to promote and support the renovation and re-occupation of empty privately owned homes within the Dudley borough over the next three years. This new lease and repair scheme will provide much needed accommodation for families in housing need."
