DUDLEY councillors and council workers have stumped up £300 for the Mayor’s charity appeal during an indoor cricket match.

The staff and politicians were competing as Team DB, the fundraising team set up earlier this year to help boost the Mayor’s charity coffers.

The councillors won the match at the former Pensnett High school, beating a team of children’s services staff, with one ball to spare in the final.

Councillor Melvyn Mottram, Mayor of Dudley, said: “I was delighted to go along to the event and was pleased to see so many council staff and councillors giving up a little of their weekend to help raise valuable funds for charity.”

This year, the Mayor’s charity appeal is in aid of Dudley Stroke Association and Diabetes UK - Stourbridge, Dudley and District Support Group.

Further fundraising avtiviites planned for the coming year include bowling, football, swimming, fishing and dragon boat racing.
