Brierley Hill pub to host new Pork Pie Fest

A BRIERLEY Hill pub will be hosting a new annual Pork Pie Fest this month.

The event will be held at the Tenth Lock pub, on The Delph, on Sunday March 24 from 2pm to 6pm.

Organisers hope to attract around 2,000 pork pie fans to the event which will see an array of butchers and piemakers selling their produce.

There will also be a contest to find the best pork pie and entertainment throughout the day will include a bouncy castle for kids, a barbecue, raffles and stalls.

The event has been organised by The Pork Pie Club.

Founded two years ago, the club meets every Wednesday evening at the Tenth Lock and members take turns to source local pies to taste and judge.

Club spokesman Dave Homer said: “We thought what a great idea it would be if our social circle took turns to source pies from near or far - so the club was formed and rather than just eat the pies we set about finding the ultimate pork pie.”

Money raised from the 1st Annual Pork Pie Fest will go to help the family of Brierley Hill man Luke Walker who is accused of murdering his girlfriend Chelsea Hyndman in Crete in May 2010.

The cost of trying to clear Luke’s name has resulted in a six-figure bill for the Walkers from Gayfield Avenue and, although the 24-year-old barman was released on bail towards the end of last year, his trial is still two months away.

Mr Homer said: “Members of the Pork Pie Club have no affiliation to the Walker family but as we all live locally and have children of the same age we realise this could have happened to any of our kids and feel compelled to help this family in their plight.”

A club website - www.thePorkPieClub.co.uk - is also being set up and will be live shortly.
