A KEEN golfer has teed off his captaincy in style at Dudley Golf Club.

Ray Saunders has been named the club’s new captain for the coming year during which he aims to raise £1,000 for The Fire Fighters Trust in memory of his older brother.

Each year the Turners Hill club captain chooses a charity to fundraise for during their time in office, with 59 year-old Ray plumping to honour the firemen who tried to rescue his brother from a house fire three years-ago.

Ray, of Old Buffery Gardens, said: “My brother was 61 when he died following a fire at his home in Colley Gate. I wanted to raise money for them as a way of saying thank you to those fire fighters who rescued him and tried to save his life.”

The club will be holding various fundraising events throughout the coming year to raise the money, including auctions and raffles.
