Brierley Hill teen determined to win singing competition

A BRIERLEY Hill teenager hit all the right notes when she auditioned for a national singing competition.
Lauren Wright, aged 14 secured a place in the regional finals of Open Mic UK after she wowed judges with her performance of Emeli Sande’s ‘Read All About It’ at Birmingham’s LG Arena on Saturday August 24.
The Thorns Community College student admitted that when was “very nervous” before the audition but was “over the moon” when she was told she had got through to the regional finals.
She added: “I have always sung and I finally felt I was getting some recognition. I am very excited about performing in the regional finals as it is in front of a live audience and cameras and it’s bigger than anything I have done before. I am now determined to win and if not get somewhere with my talent.”
She will return to the LG Arena on October 5 but is yet to decide what song to perform.
If she impresses the crowds she will progress to the grand final at London’s O2 arena and be in with the chance of winning cash, studio time and development classes worth £50,000.
Previous finalists include Union J’s Jaymi Hensley and R&B/pop singer Hatty Keane.
