Trial date set for Brierley Hill man accused of HGV crash death in Quarry Bank

A PROVISIONAL trial date has been set for a Brierley Hill man accused of killing a man who died after being in collision with a lorry in Quarry Bank.
Garret Fitzpatrick of Bank Street has been charged with the manslaughter of Sartaj Aziz who was hit by the lorry in Thorns Road on August 20.
Judge John Warner sitting at Wolverhampton Crown Court told 27-year-old Fitzpatrick his trial was scheduled to begin on February 17 next year.
He said Fitzpatrick would be returning to the court on November 7 when it was expected he would make a plea to the charge.
Fitzpatrick was further remanded in custody but Sarah Buckingham, for Fitzpatrick, told the judge there would be a full application for bail on a date to be fixed.
Mr Aziz was declared dead at the scene and Thorns Road, a main road into Dudley, was closed until the early hours of the day following the collision which involved a HGV.
A number of tributes to Mr Aziz have been placed outside the Formula l Hand Car Wash in Thorns Road close to the spot where the collision took place.
