5:00pm Sunday 13th October 2013 in News
A PAIR of charities have shared a £25,000 windfall from former Dudley mayor Melvyn Mottram.
Cllr Mottram, who was the borough's first citizen in the 2012/13 civic year, chose to support the Dudley Stroke Association and Diabetes UK, Stourbridge, Dudley and District support group during his time in office.
Fundraising events included charity cricket, football and bowls matches with Team DB – made up of councillors and council staff.
Councillor Mottram also received donations from businesses during a series of tours to borough firms during the year.
He said: “Being mayor is a privileged position because it gives you an opportunity to celebrate the work of charities and raise some much needed funds.
“I am extremely grateful to everyone who supported the charities in my mayoral year and I hope this will go some way to helping them continue their work in supporting people in most need.”
