BOROUGH residents with wartime memories and photographs are urged to come forward and help commemorate the centenary of the Great War.

Dudley Council will use the information and material it receives to develop website pages exploring the local significance of the area during the First World War.

The council is looking to pull together stories, photographs and recollections from relatives who have items and stories from the war that have been passed on through the generations.

John Polychronakis, chief executive at Dudley Council, said: “The idea is to create something meaningful for the people of Dudley borough that they can get involved with. We hope to create an online exhibition of local stories and photographs that will last for the duration of the First World War centenary until 2018.

“It will be, among other things, an educational resource. We want to hear people’s stories, and hear about the bravery of the men and women who lived in this area during World War One.”

The online First World War web pages have already been set up by the council and can be viewed at www.dudley.gov.uk/media/latest-news/world-war-one/.

It features details of local war heroes who received the Victoria Cross, a First World War timeline and an overview of the war.

People who are able to add stories and scanned photographs should send them to kate.rochester-jones@dudley.gov.uk
