BRIERLEY Hill will be bustling with activity this Saturday (April 26) when the town hosts the borough’s official St George’s Day celebrations.

Dignitaries including the Mayor and Mayoress of Dudley, Councillor Alan Finch and his wife Heather, will kick off a day of family fun with a civic opening - at 10.30am on the main stage – featuring music by Halesowen Scout Band.

Stourbridge singer Maggie O’Hara will then lead onlookers through a patriotic sing-a-long which will be followed by a full programme of music and dance events running until 3pm.

Performers will include the Sedgley Morris Men, Brierley Hill Musical Theatre, Black Country Gaz and the Kingswinford Air Training Corps band.

There will be free small fairground rides, craft activities with Juniors at Museums, face painting by Dudley Zoo, a birds of prey display by Skyhunters, a lively barrel organ plus stands by Fast Aid Black Country and Brierley Hill Air Training Corps.

The day will also include a Great Brierley Hill Bake-Off competition - the winners of which will be announced at11.40am. The cakes will then be sold in aid of the mayor’s charities from 11.45am onwards.

Brierley Hill Civic Hall will host a free tea dance from 1pm to 3pm. Tickets should be booked on 01384 818186.

The town’s library will also be hosting storytelling and craft sessions and running a colouring competition, offering young artists chance to win a family pass to Dudley Zoo; and the Sedgley Morris men will be performing at noon.
