A DUDLEY man who viciously attacked and rained punches onto his victim has been spared a spell behind bars.

Carl Anslow, aged 25, had been involved in an argument with Christopher Morton in the Castle pub and when they left the premises he and another unknown man set about him, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

The victim hit the ground and it was clear he had badly damaged his right arm but Anslow then chased after him and launched a second attack.

Afterwards Mr Morton had to undergo surgery to repair his damaged arm and in a victim impact statement he later told police the incident had left him wary about going into Dudley.

Mr Morton said his confidence had suffered badly as a result of the attack in which he sustained a double arm fracture. He had been left with two nasty scars on his arm and there was continued discomfort from the injury.

As he ruled the second assault on the vulnerable victim has clearly been premeditated, Judge Michael Challinor told Anslow: "This was a sustained attack.”

The judge said Anslow had himself been badly shocked by the extent of the damage sustained by Mr Morton adding: "You have already taken action to avoid this sort of behaviour happening again in the future."

Jas Mann, for Anslow, said his client had been drinking heavily before the attack and had clearly lost his temper but he had now taken steps to control his alcohol intake.

Mr Mann said: "He is full of remorse for what happened and thoroughly ashamed. There had been some sort of scuffle inside the public house and he certainly does not know the other man who joined in the first attack."

Mr Mann said Anslow who had previous convictions involving violence, accepted that after punching the victim a number of times he then went back to assault him a second time.

Anslow, of Willow Road, Wrens Nest, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm and he was given a 12 month jail term suspended for 18 months.

He was further told he must carry out 120 hours unpaid work in the community and placed on supervision for 18 months.
