PUPILS from Peter's Hill primary school were handed a history lesson with a difference when they joined staff at Sainbury's store in Amblecote to help celebrate the company's 145th birthday.

Staff sported Victorian dress for the occasion and helped the children with a range of activities while hearing about the story of founding members Mary Ann and James Sainsbury who opened their small dairy shop in London's Drury Lane back in 1869.

Dudley's Mayor, councillor Alan Finch, also dropped in on the activities which included writing on chalk boards, making cornucopias and learning about Amblecote's rich history.

There was also a visit from Angela Clay of the Black Country Living Museum who handed out leaflets and promotional vouchers to customers.

Sainsbury's PR Ambassador Julie Bate said: "We had a lovely day which was fun and engaging for the children.

"Some of the staff dressed up as chimney sweeps and other Black Country characters which had many of the customers reminiscing."
