DUDLEY’S transport supremo aims to get the measure of parking problems caused by a town centre upgrade.

Council chiefs say creating temporary parking spaces in Stone Street and, on busy days, moving market traders to the events area of the market place and Stone Street Square will help boost trade during revamp work.

Cllr Kurshid Ahmed, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for transportation, has also pledged the temporary one-hour spaces on Stone Street will become permanent once the new market place area reopens in early 2015.

Cllr Ahmed said: “As we continue to make these exciting improvements to the town centre we have listened to suggestions that we find more free on-street parking for our visitors.

“We are delighted to be able to provide these temporary spaces while the market place redevelopment is underway but we are also making provisions for permanent parking in the area too.”
