Dudley News: Dudley charity concert will remember Stephen Sutton Dudley charity concert will remember Stephen Sutton

A CONCERT at Dudley Town Hall will be dedicated to the memory of fundraising cancer sufferer Stephen Sutton and will raise money for fellow teens affected by the disease.

Charitable group Gig Caritas is presenting the event at the St James's Road venue on Saturday July 12 in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust - which Stephen raised over £4million for before losing his fight against bowel cancer last month.

The concert, 'The American Dream – A Celebration of American Music and Musicals', will feature West End stars Kieran Brown, Sabrina Aloueche, Katie Bernstein, CiCi Howells and the programme will include music from gospel hymns to numbers from musicals such as West Side Story, Rent and Wicked.

Stephen Sutton, who has been posthumously awarded an MBE for his fundraising efforts, had been due to attend the concert - Chris Passey from Gig Caritas said.

He added: "We knew Stephen personally and he had been working with us on this concert until his tragic death on May 14.

"His fundraising efforts were inspirational. We will now dedicate the event to him and will donate to the Teenage Cancer Trust - West Midlands."

The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, will see feature a 20-piece orchestra conducted by Keith Horsfall and a 70-strong community choir which includes members of In Sound Company and performers from Brierley Hill Musical Theatre Company.

Gig Caritas has raised around £8,000 over the last two years from its charity shows which have seen an array of professional musicians and performers taking to the stage free of charge to help good causes.

And the group recently received £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to create unique performance spaces with professional staging and seating to bring performances to a wider community audience.
