A COLLECTION of colourful, handmade quilts are now on display at Dudley Museum and Art Gallery.
Quilts of all shapes and sizes, made by members of Crystal Quilters, Stourbridge and Forest Quilters, Kidderminster, feature in the new exhibition, The Art of Quilting – Traditional and Contemporary.
Pieces include 'To Abi with love', a fairytale quilt complete with castle, unicorn and cascading leaves, 'Home and Sweet Home' featuring various domestic abodes including houses, windmills, houseboats and lighthouses and an African inspired quilt with animal prints, tribal art and masks.
Items exhibited show the full range of patchwork and quilting techniques, from traditional hexagons and crazy patchwork, to contemporary techniques using painted, hand dyed, printed and stencilled fabric.
Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “The quality and variety of work these talented women have produced is quite remarkable. Each piece shows off the skills and imagination of its creator and no two pieces are alike.
“This is a really inspiring and uplifting exhibition which I’m sure will appeal to all visitors, not just those with an interest in textiles.”
The free exhibition runs until September 27 at the museum on St James’ Road.
