A YOUNG author from Dudley Wood proved she has the write stuff by scooping top spot in a children’s competition.
Shannon Jackson, aged 11, was overall winner in this year’s Dudley borough school children’s writing competition which saw a succession of junior scribes collecting awards in categories for fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
The competition was divided into two age groups, seven to nine and ten to eleven, and prizes were donated by sponsors including The Rye Market Stourbridge, Waitrose Stourbridge, Waterstones Merry Hill, Halesowen Rotary Club Less4Office Supplies and Dudley Tesco.
Councillor Tim Crumpton, Dudley cabinet member for children’s services and lifelong learning, said: “We are fortunate to have some very talented youngsters in our schools and events like these really do bring out the best in them.
“I hope the competition has really fired their imagination and brought out some wonderful stories.”
