CREEPY creatures are set to feature in summer entertainment for borough bookworms at Dudley library events.

Children will be able to get up close and personal to creatures from Dudley Zoological Gardens when staff bring them along.

There will be snakes and spiders and other creepy animals for youngsters to meet at Sedgley Library at 2.30pm on Monday July 28 and at Lye Library at 2.30pm on Wednesday July 30.

The creature features are just two of the many free activities organised as part of this year’s summer reading challenge, which is this year, based on the world of legend and mythology.

Children aged four to 11 have until September 14 to read six books during the school holidays.

Children who read six books will receive a certificate and glow-in-the-dark wristband and be entered into a free prize draw for a chance to win some special prizes including family tickets to Think tank, the Grand Theatre and Severn Valley Railway.

Councillor Hilary Bills, Dudley cabinet member responsible for libraries, said: “I’m delighted to welcome the staff from Dudley Zoo back into our libraries. We know their visits are always hugely popular with youngsters and I hope this month’s sessions are no exceptions. With so many activities planned in libraries, they are a really good place to be during the school holidays and children can sign up to the summer reading challenge too.”

All libraries will host weekly summer reading challenge activities, more information can be found online at www.dudley.gov.uk/libraries. The Arts Council has funded many of the activities.

Children must be a member of Dudley libraries to take part in the challenge. Joining the library is easy and free and it can be done online or at your nearest Dudley borough Library.
