PARAMEDICS have confirmed a female cyclist hit by a lorry in Gornal today (August 8) died at the scene of the smash.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the junction of Jews Lane and Kent Street, Upper Gornal, at just after 11.35am.

An ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews attended a road traffic collision involving a lorry and cyclist. “Sadly, it quickly became apparent to crews that nothing could be done to save the cyclist involved. She was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The lorry driver was assessed by ambulance staff, but did not require further hospital treatment.”

West Midlands Police sealed-off streets around the scene and launched an immediate investigation. Witnesses or anyone with information should call officers on 101.
