MOTORISTS across the borough are being asked to ditch their cars for Cycle to Work Day on Thursday (September 4).

Dudley Council is backing the event, which asks everyone to take to two wheels for their commute to work.

It is hoped the day will help to raise awareness of the health benefits of cycling, while pointing out the reduction in road traffic and pollution as a result of more people using their bikes to get to work.

Councillor Rachel Harris, cabinet member responsible for health and wellbeing, said: “Dudley Council has done a lot of work to improve cycle provision in the borough over the last few years including the recent addition of a cycle path near Russells Hall Hospital and Holly Hall School.”

“Around 760,000 people across the UK regularly cycle to work and the numbers are growing as commuters see the health and cost saving benefits.

“I hope everyone will come forward and take part in the Cycle to Work Day to help us to get even more people on their bikes here in Dudley.”
