A GOLDEN girl of Black Country athletics has been awarded a new glittering prize by the Dudley fitness club.

Commonwealth double gold medallist Jodie Stimpson trains at The Village Hotel’s Velocity Health and Fitness Club on Castlegate Park and the club has awarded her a golden locker to mark her achievements.

Triathlete Jodie, from Oldbury, uses the club to train for events and won her first event eight years ago when she was aged just nine.

Her finest hour to date came at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow where she won gold in the individual and mixed team competitions.

The golden locker was created for her by the Village during a £200,000 refurbishment of the changing rooms.

Village Hotel Dudley general manager, Darryl Holdnall, said: “We’re really proud to have Jodie as a regular here at the Village and felt the changing room refurb offered us the perfect opportunity to recognise her amazing achievements.

“The golden locker seemed a fitting tribute to acknowledge the commitment and dedication it has taken her since she was a young girl to become the top athlete she is today.

“We’ve engraved her accolades to date on the locker, but have left plenty of room because we’re sure there will be many more to come.”

Jodie Stimpson added: “This is so unexpected, but a really lovely honour.”
