BRITAIN'S war heroes will be remembered at a major festival of commemoration which is set to take place in Dudley.

Dudley Council is set to stage a series of events to mark the period of remembrance, kicking off with Dudley Festival of Remembrance on Thursday November 6.

The Gentlemen Songsters Male Voice Choir will be entertaining at Dudley Town Hall with a series of show-stopping songs.

They will be accompanied by a guest appearance from singer Natasha Harper while music is provided by Phoenix West Midlands Brass.

Tickets cost £8 and can be bought by calling 01384 838863 or 0870 320 7000, with all proceeds going to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Crowds in their thousands are expected at Dudley’s Remembrance Sunday service on Sunday November 9 at the cenotaph in Ednam Road from 10.40am.

Any uniformed organisations can take part in the parade by meeting in Vicar Street for 10.15am.

The annual Armistice Day service will be on Tuesday November 11 at the Clock Tower in Priory Street starting at 10.50am.

Mayor of Dudley, Cllr Margaret Aston said: "The period of remembrance is always a very special time for us.

"That's why we have a number of events for people to join us in remembering the sacrifices that the people in our armed forces made for us.

Several road closures will be in place for the Remembrance Sunday parade. Closures will affect Priory Road, Ednam Road, New Street, Tower Street, Priory Street, Stone Street, St Jame's Road, Parsons Street, Market Place, High Street, Wolverhampton Street, Union Street and Vicar Street.

Veterans will join council staff, councillors and the public at the clock tower for the annual Armistice Day service which starts at 11am with the laying of wreaths followed by a two minute silence.

Priory Street will be closed for the service from 8am until 1pm with alternative routes put in place.
