A SENIOR Dudley councillor has apologised for calling the Prime Minister “dishface” shortly after a solemn Remembrance Day ceremony.

Labour’s Dudley cabinet member for adult and community services, Cllr Dave Branwood, took to the social network website Twitter to take a swipe at David Cameron after the PM left a comment on how moving it was to stand at the cenotaph.

Cllr Branwood, who represents the Gornal ward, was branded a right twitter by his political foes after he posted the one-word insult at 11.36am on November 11.

A member of the public highlighted the tasteless tweet to UKIP who went on the attack claiming Cllr Branwood was showing disrespect on a national day of mourning.

UKIP’s group leader on Dudley Council, Cllr Paul Brothwood, said: “I find Cllr Branwood’s inane remark deeply distasteful and I believe he should apologise for issuing the tweet at a deeply sensitive time. Maybe he should also make a donation to a charity such as the Poppy Appeal.

“For a cabinet member to make a statement of this nature brings his judgement into question at a time of national mourning.”

Cllr Branwood said: "It was a light-hearted tweet which I've since deleted as I recognise the timing wasn't appropriate. I of course apologise for any offence given.”
