BUSINESS in Dudley got a boost after an important route in the town centre was reopened following a revamp.

Traffic is flowing again on King Street following a £650,000 improvement which has seen the creation of eight new parking spaces and a raised area to assist pedestrians crossing the road.

Business bosses and Dudley Council’s transport chief welcomed the opening, on December 12, which will provide a link for drivers between Union Street and Flood Street.

Roy Jevons, who runs a music school on King Street, said: “We are all really pleased that King Street has reopened and with the improvements that have been made. I’ve been here a long time and I’ve remained committed to Dudley town centre.

“I have already noticed increased awareness of my shop, which is great news. With the road opening today, I’m looking forward to this increasing further.”

Cllr Khurshid Ahmed, Dudley cabinet member for transport, added: “The improvements that have been made will make a significant difference to the businesses by improving traffic flow and movement, passing trade and pedestrian safety.

“Added to that the refurbishment of Long Entry as part of the market place redevelopment, King Street has never been better linked to the centre of town.

“I would like to thank King Street businesses for their continued patience and I wish them every success in the future.”
