THE Chain Shop at Mushroom Green will be lighting up on the Winter Solstice to see off the longest night of the year.

People from Quarry Bank and Dudley Wood are invited to the LED: Light Eats Dark event taking place on Sunday December 21 from 4.30pm to 6pm.

The event, funded thanks to support from the Quarry Bank and Dudley Wood Community First Fund, will include a light show designed in a collaboration between the newly-formed Christ Church Quarry Bank Girl Guides and UK Event Services, a local firm that has lit The Vamps on tour.

There will also be a visit into the darkness of Mousesweet Brook Reserve.

Everyone attending is asked to take along a torch to add their own touch to the light show.

Vicki Darby Smith, co director of Walk Works, said: “This light festival is an experiment.

“We are a new community interest company that uses walking and outdoor events to look at the history of this area in creative ways. The Chain Shop at Mushroom Green is an ideal place for people to get together and have some fun without travelling miles.”

Tickets are available online from www.eventbrite.com (search for Dudley Wood).

They cost £5 for adults (and include soup and naan bread from Quarry Bank’s Undaal Restaurant) and admission is free for accompanied children.
