A BRIERLEY Hill woman who hid a stash of cocaine for her drug dealer son has avoided spending time behind bars.

But her 28-year-old son was jailed for two years after he was found with the class A drug on the car park of The Swan pub in Kingswinford.

When police officers arrested Thomas Smith they found 38 small bags of cocaine, valued at £1,520, inside the BMW car he was driving, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

He told the officers he had more drugs at his Springfield Road home but when they went to the property, they found his mother Lorna Smith had hidden them.

When later questioned, the 48-year-old said she had been following instructions from another man, who was an alleged accomplice of her son.

She admitted committing an act intending to pervert the course of justice and was given a six month jail term, suspended for a year.

Thomas Smith admitted possessing cocaine and conspiracy to supply the drug and was told the only possible sentence was one of immediate custody.

Lee Marklew, defending, told the court that Smith began dealing controlled drugs after the end of his 13 year relationship with his partner.
