GORNAL people are looking forward to a £75,000 revamp at the town’s bus station which will also ease parking problems.
A six week consultation has begun to allow members of the public to have their say on a scheme to improve facilities at Abbey Road to create around ten new parking spaces.
The work will also improve the passenger information at the bus hub, details will be posted to neighbouring properties and on display in public buildings in the vicinity.
Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, Dudley cabinet member for transportation, said: “Ward councillors have raised the need for extra parking in the area and we will continue to work with them to bring these proposals to fruition.
“Once complete this will not only provide more parking but also lead to improved bus travel too.”
Cllr Stuart Turner, councillor for the Gornal ward, said: "This is great news for all the residents, traders and shoppers of Gornal. The extra spaces will make a huge difference right in the centre of the village.
“This is the culmination of a lot of work and a long campaign during which a petition was raised and was signed by hundreds of people. This just goes to show what can be achieved when we all work together."
