A MAN was cut free from a car and two others including a young boy were hurt when a vehicle crashed through a wall and into a tree in Kidderminster today (May 18).

The accident happened at around 11am this morning on Comberton Road, near the junction with Chester Road.

A car had left the road before smashing through a wall and hitting a tree, causing serious damage. It is not clear what caused the accident.

A fire crew from Kidderminster used cutting equipment to free a front seat passenger, a man in his 40s, from the wreckage.

Both the driver of the car, a man in his 60s, and a 10-year-old boy who was sitting in the back seat were able to get out of the car themselves.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said all three were lucky not to suffer more serious injuries given the condition of the car and tree following the accident.

Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle and a paramedic support officer were on the scene within four minutes of the crash happening.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived they found a white Ford Fiesta that had suffered significant damage to the driver’s side; a wheel had come off and the wall and tree were badly affected.

“It was not clear exactly what had happened. The front seat passenger, a man in his 40s had to be cut free from the wreckage of the vehicle. Ambulance staff worked on him while firefighters removed the roof.

“He was complaining of lower back pain and was immobilised before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

“The driver, a man in his 60s had managed to get out of the vehicle himself. He was complaining of chest pain, but was otherwise unhurt. He was taken to the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch for further assessment.

“The rear seat passenger, a 10 year old boy, was also able to get out of the vehicle himself. He too was complaining of chest pain, but after assessment at the scene, he was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital as a precaution.

“Given the level of damage to the car, wall and tree, it is fortunate that there were not more serious injuries.”
