A REDDITCH family of four who lived at a house with no smoke detectors is lucky to be alive after a fire broke out at their Foxlydiate Crescent home.

Three fire engines from Redditch were called to the incident 1.37am today (Wednesday, May 20) after a timer set on a dishwasher caused the blaze.

DUDLEY Council is facing a bill that could run into five figures after the Planning Inspectorate overturned a decision to reject an Amblecote care home plan.

Developer Surinder Bains was this week celebrating after being given the go-ahead to continue his plan to transform new homes built on the site of the old Stourbridge War Memorial Club into two residential care homes for children, following a successful appeal.

SEVERN Trent Water is set to start a £740,000 project, to replace nearly six kilometres of new water pipes at the end of May.

The water company will be starting the majority of the work in the villages of Bayton and Mamble, during the May half term holiday and the summer holidays.

LEGENDARY marathon runner Blind Dave Heeley will be starting this year's Black Country Run in Halesowen - the biggest yet.

Now in its fourth year the event, which is organised by the Rotary Club of Halesowen and Rowley Regis, is set to be the biggest yet and has been moved to Sunday, July 5 to be part of the Black Country Festival.
