MOTORISTS have been warned they face delays while gas main repairs are under way in Sedgley.

Major work to the pipes under Birmingham New Road and Sedgley Road West will take place over the next few weeks.

Much of the work will take place at weekends, off peak times and during school holidays to try and minimise the impact on traffic.

Work is due to start on Saturday (October 17) and run until November 27.

One lane will be closed northbound along Birmingham New Road throughout, outside peak times.

During half term (October 24 - November 1) Sedgley Road West will be made one way to traffic (west to east) with diversions along Park Road, Chad Road and Mason Street.

Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environmental services, said: “This is essential work carried out by Balfour Beatty to ensure that people have a gas supply over the winter.

“We have worked closely with the company while they produced a traffic plan and ensured lane closures and other work is carried out off peak and when traffic volume is traditionally lower. But inevitably there will be some disruption.

“I hope people will bear with us and avoid the area if at all possible.”

Work is scheduled to take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm weekdays and all day during weekends and school holidays.
